Asawaree started learning Kathak at a very tender age of 7 yrs from her illustrious Guru, Pandita Dr. Rohini Bhate, the doyen of Kathak. Asawaree has been travelling all over the country since 1986, and today, owns concurrent acclaims in Indian classical dance, especially Kathak. She has an acute sense of rhythm, which contributes her own dimension in Kathak dance, and that must have recognition from all the great exponents of Indian classical music exponents of this present day world. Being so much closely associated with Guru Rohini Bhate, she has evolved a unique and rich style in Abhinaya.
Presently working as ‘Manad Guru’ – Honorary Teacher for Post Graduation courses in Kathak at Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, and Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune, in the Faculties of Performing Arts .
Furthermore, she teaches M.A Kathak students in Savitribai Phule Pune University.
Creative Compositions
Asawaree has composed various Aamads, Parans, Tukdas & Gintees in various Taals as the technical part, & Shiv Vandana, Thumri, a novel nayika – Mugdha – Khandita, a Meera Bhajan, and most recently, a famous bhajan sung by ‘Bharatratna’ Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, in the Abhinay part of Kathak.
She has choreographed a composition named ‘Chaitanya’, and its elaboration by the name ‘Horizon’, with mental illness & society as the core subject.
She has been in the creative team for choreography and lyrical composition for the ballet ‘ Bhairava Bhavataarak’ based on epics and compositions related to Lord Shiva.
She has choreographed, scripted, and performed in the ballet ‘Darpan- Pehchaan Stree Astitva Ki’, and ‘Radha’.
