Asawaree started learning Kathak at a very tender age of 7 yrs from her illustrious Guru, Pandita Dr. Rohini Bhate, the doyen of Kathak. Asawaree has been travelling all over the country since 1986, and today, owns concurrent acclaims in Indian classical dance, especially Kathak. She has an acute sense of rhythm, which contributes her own dimension in Kathak dance, and that must have recognition from all the great exponents of Indian classical music exponents of this present day world. Being so much closely associated with Guru Rohini Bhate, she has evolved a unique and rich style in Abhinaya.

Presently working as ‘Manad Guru’ – Honorary Teacher for Post Graduation courses in Kathak at Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, and Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune, in the Faculties of Performing Arts .

Furthermore, she teaches M.A Kathak students in Savitribai Phule Pune University.

About Guru

Awarded with the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship, Guru Pandita Dr Rohini Bhate has focused her energies for over 50 years on teaching and    performing Kathak. Groomed in the art by the late Guru Lachchu Maharaj  and the Late Guru Mohanrao Kallianpurkar , she has evolved a unique, rich style of her own.

Says Guru Dr. Rohini Bhate, Asawaree has an excellent sense of rhythm and has tremendous capacity to enthrall the audience with her performances of classical Kathak. She deserves chances to prove her merit in front of discerning audiences.

Udgaar

Asawaree has branched out of her parent concern and almamater

Nrityabharati Kathak Dance Academy, by the Name of Udgaar, where she gives training in pure classical kathak- an attempt to carry forward the work of Guru Rohini Bhate.

Udgaar has a few clear objectives, and the social aspect related to art has been one of its main focuses. Working towards this end, Udgaar has jointly staged ballets ‘Bhairava Bhavataarak’ & ‘Darpan’ the proceedings of which have been donated as charity.

In its foremost aim of taking Kathak to the masses, Udgaar has organized concerts in Pune :- ‘Samanvay’ – staging eminent male exponents of all the major schools of Kathak & ‘Shraddheya’ – a tribute to Guru Rohiniji,  and a series of concerts, – ‘Dagar Chalat’ – featuring acclaimed soloists, and ‘Avartan’  –  a platform for upcoming talented artists, carrying forward the traditions of their respective Gharanas – may it be vocal, or instrumental, that is percussion to be specific, and of course, Kathak!

Held a Concert ‘Pratibimb’ which was put forth to acknowledge the work of eminent personalities from all three fields of Indian Classical Music – Kathak dance, Tabla and Vocal.

Udgaar also conducted a residential workshop, ‘Pratibimb’ which was a masterclass by Guru Neelima Adhye.
